flooding in san francisco. new at 6:00, ktvu david stevenson is live in the city, in the trouble spots where the workers are keeping a close eye on tonight. david? >> that's right. the sandbags are the city's front lines against flooding, es specially in the neighborhood that was hit hard earlier this year. >> under gray skies and falling rain, san francisco's department of public works this morning rushed to release sandbags to residents. the city stockpile several hundred bags for distribution. >> given out approximately 200 sandbags so far. clearing catch basins and the areas flowing leaves. we've had a couple of minor incidents with trees coming down. >> the skies cleared by midday leaving behind flooding that prompted the park service to close the highway. this man's car died moments after he drove through the intersection. >> i went through the puddle and, a car just stalled. i guess the water just went into the hood. >> fear of flooding is strongest in the city's mission district. heavy rain in april flooded an apartment building including a restaurant. >> the water wants

, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> police are investigating a string of smash and grabs. people found this, car windows smashed. you can see here the dashboard ripped apart in this suv. police received 5 reports but can't say if anything was taken. at this point police have no suspects. >>> man was shot and skilled last night -- killed last night. jose rivera estrada was found lying on the sidewalk about 9:30 p.m. he was pronounced dead. the suspect or suspects took off in the victim's car. jose rivera estrada was a cook and may have been on his way home after leaving work. >>> police and the chp are investigating a bizarre shoot out on 580. last night passengers in two cars fired shots at each other. officers found shell casings and two abandon cars covered in bullet holes. >> fortunately no indant bystanders were hit -- no bistandards were hit. >> no gun shot victims turned up at any hospitals. police have several good witnesses and that people can call in tips anonymously. >>> the former president of the school board made a statement. he stepped down november 7 after winning reelection.

where a manhole blew up late this afternoon. when ktvu - when news chopper 2 first arrived, it was thought that one man was injured. but it turns out someone was hurt at another accident that happened just a couple blocks away. >>> wal-mart is just one of a list of major retailers planning to open early and stay open late to lure in black friday shoppers. rob roth is live now in oakland where protesters are hoping to disrupt the search for those holiday bargains. >> reporter: we were with the protesters when they went inside shouting their demands. the protest is part of the nationwide campaign to pressure wal-mart into paying workers more and providing better benefits. the noisy but peaceful demonstration caught shoppers offguard. >> i understand the cause so i respect it. i'm for it, so i hope they get exactly what they're asking for. >> reporter: bravo is a custodian at wal-mart. he says he lives paycheck to paycheck, earning 9.85 an hour. >> we deserve more and i believe wal-mart should pay us more. >> reporter: wal-mart says its turnover rate is lower than the national retail
